ICO economic report: A new perspective (Global Coffee Report)

November 19, 2020

Global Coffee Report published an article about the rise of global value chains (GVCs) over the past 30 years. It has resulted in more complex and geographically fragmented supply chains for a vast variety of goods, ranging from smartphones to agricultural products. Whether ‘spider-like’ with internationally-sourced parts and components assembled at a factory or ‘snake-like’ with value created step by step along the supply chain, GVCs today account for half of global trade, according to the World Bank.

The International Coffee Organization Economics and Statistics units have teamed up with the renowned Kiel Institute for the World Economy, as well as partners at IFPRI and the London School of Economics, to map the evolution and drivers of coffee GVCs, providing new insights into the economic sustainability and resilience of the global coffee sector.
