Big Data and near-real-time monitoring of food emergencies (VB Profiles)

December 19, 2020

VB Profiles published an article on the AAEA conference that features Markets, Trade, and Institutions Division director Rob Vos speaking about his upcoming session. AAEA members and researchers will examine food insecurity with new technology, the poverty and malnutrition indicators, whether or not cell phone metadata can predict food security, and the vegetation index. Vos says, “Even before COVID-19, global hunger was on the rise, especially where livelihoods are affected by conflict, climate change, and economic collapse. While the risk factors are known, their timely monitoring is tedious, but badly needed. This session should show us the prospects of filling this void and save lives.” (Reach 55K) Republished in San Francisco Chronicle,  PR WebBizWire, Canadian Insider.
