Empowering Adolescent Girls through Better Information

The next International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) and IFPRI Impact Evaluation Seminar will be held on April 11 at 12:30 EST. Markus Goldstein of the World Bank will present on how a two-pronged program providing vocational training and information on health and risky behaviors impacted the health and labor outcomes of adolescent girls in Uganda.

Goldstein will discuss results from the paper Empowering Adolescent Girls: Evidence from a Randomized Control Trial in Uganda. This paper examines whether a lack of vocational training or a lack of health information plays a larger role in Uganda’s high rates of HIV, early pregnancy, and unemployment. The authors find that a two-pronged approach combining both job training and improved health information may be more effective in improving health, decreasing risky behaviors, and increasing employment among adolescent girls than programs addressing only employment or only health. The seminar will be live webcast from the event website

The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) and IFPRI Seminar Series highlights the latest impact evaluation research and facilitates discussion of how to bring improvements and innovation to the field of impact evaluation. The 3ie-IFPRI Seminar Series presents speakers and discussants whose work features innovative methodologies and addresses crucial evaluation questions. The series began in May 2012.
