A seminar series held in preparation for the conference Taking Action for the World's Poor and Hungry People, which will take place in Beijing, October 2007
In September 2000, heads of state adopted the Millennium Declaration. One of its goals commits to halve the proportion of poor and hungry by 2015. Even if this Millennium Development Goal is achieved at the global level, many millions of the world's poorest and hungry people will be left behind.
So who are the poorest people—those who are so difficult to reach with current and past approaches? Why are their situations so dire? What actions are needed to achieve their sustained move out of poverty and hunger?. How do we design and implement appropriate policies and strategies? This seminar series is being held to help think through these questions and find innovative solutions. It is part of a wider consultative process IFPRI is undertaking on actions for the world's poorest and hungry people.
